Biography

Simon Ryder initially trained as a zoologist (BSc Zoology, Bristol University) before balancing this with art (BA Fine Art, Kingston University; MA Fine Art, Royal College of Art). He is a founder member of artNucleus (www.artnucleus.org) and co-curator, with Louisa Fairclough, of Mezz (www.mezz.info).

Having created artworks for a wide range of places and their communities over the past ten years, from the resonant spaces of Gloucester cathedral to the storm-battered tip of the Isle of Portland, my interest has now shifted to the places and landscapes that we carry within us: those that shape and colour our view of the world, wherever we are at the time. With this my practice has become more personal, more individual and moved towards collaborative performance, incorporating film, sound design, sculpture, dance and music.
